C (crew visa): issued to crew members and their accompanying family members on international air, navigation, and land transport missions.

D (resident visa): issued to applicants who have permanent residence in China.

J (journalist visa): J-1 is issued to foreign resident journalists in China; J-2 is issued to foreign journalists in China for temporary interviews.

R (talent visa): it is issued to high-level talents or talents in urgent need of skills in China.

Visa for private visit: to the families of foreigners who work or study in China.

Q (family reunion visa): issued to relatives of Chinese citizens living in China or foreigners with permanent residence permit.

When to apply for a visa

It's important to get a visa early, but not too early, because from the date of issue, a single / dual entry visa is only valid for 90 / 180 days. It is usually recommended that you apply for a visa one or two months before you book your trip.

But now you can go to several of China's largest cities and popular tourist destinations, travel around them, and leave within 72 / 144 hours without a visa.
