Find out the Chinese visa you need

There are many kinds of Chinese visas. Choose the visa type that suits your situation. If you plan to go to China for a holiday, please apply for a tourist visa (L visa).

Prepare documents To Get Chinese Visa

The following list of documents is required for any Chinese visa application:

Valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months when you enter China.

Complete visa application form. You can complete it by computer, print, and sign it. In some countries, such as the UK, you should fill out an online form.

Recent passport photo (head and shoulders only, front, white background, about 48mmx33mm)

In addition to the above general requirements, additional documents are required depending on the type of Chinese visa applied for.

For example, if you apply for a tourist visa, you need to prepare a ticket booking record (round trip) and a hotel booking certificate or invitation.

If you plan to stay with a friend or family member living in China, but can't provide a hotel confirmation, or your travel is organized by a travel agency (or other officially authorized organization) in China, the invitation letter can replace the air ticket and hotel reservation.

Submit application

You can apply to the visa office of the Chinese embassy or consulate or the China visa application service center (also known as cvasc) if they are doing business in your country.

Since 2018, visa applicants from more and more countries (including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada) have to apply for visas in person and collect fingerprints.

Pay fees and Get Chinese visa

Go to the place where you apply for the Chinese visa, pay the handling fee and get the visa.

The fees listed in the table are visa fees only. If you apply through the China visa application service center, you need to pay service fees and taxes.

When to apply for a Chinese visa

It's important to get a visa early, but not too early, because from the date of issue, a single / dual entry visa is only valid for 90 / 180 days.

It is usually recommended that you apply for a visa one or two months before you book your trip.

Should I apply for a visa now, or should I wait until it's closer to my travel time?

Chinese visas are generally valid for three months from the date of issue. Please apply for a visa according to your travel itinerary within 3 months after your entry to avoid visa expiration. Also don't apply too late to avoid the extra cost of fast application processing.

It is usually recommended to use about 6 weeks before travel. Tourist visa is usually handled within 4 working days.
