Requirements For American Employment In China

These TEFL certificates can be done in-person or online, and are widely available for reasonable fees.

Candidates interested in teaching in China can usually apply before completing their TEFL certificate, which enables them to confirm which projects are accepted by their school and use some reimbursement or special discounts in selected TEFL projects.

Finally, previous teaching experience usually does not need to teach English in China! Although some schools, provinces or higher-level teaching work does need 2 years of experience, there are quite a lot of work not needed. This makes teaching English in China a very practical choice for many Americans to find jobs in China.

Do Americans Need Good Chinese To Find A Job In China?

In most cases, jobs for Americans (and other foreigners) in China do not require them to speak or understand Chinese. Many of these positions work in international companies, which often use English for overseas business.

When teaching English in the classroom, the ideal situation is that Chinese classrooms use immersive teaching-the classroom is conducted in English only. This means that technically speaking, the teacher can take the class without speaking Mandarin.
