Where do most expats live in China

Expatriates choose to dwell in the places where they have the greatest business prospects in China, which is a large nation. Teaching is one of the few occupations where foreigners may choose to live outside the cities in the countryside. Most Chinese cities have a mix of the ancient and the modern, and this is a common theme in the country's history and culture.

Tenth in Asia in Mercer's Cost of Living Index.

Beijing, China's capital city, is home to 98 of China's top enterprises and 52 of the Fortune 500. Beijing is not only the capital of China, but it is also the country's cultural, political, and diplomatic center. At the 2000 census, the city had a population of 11.51 million. Even if a company's industrial facilities are located abroad, it will keep a presence in Beijing to deal with the bureaucracy of the central government.

    Climate

During the summer, the air is thick and stifling. During the months of June and July, most of the rain falls. July is the warmest month, with temperatures topping out at 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures may fall as low as –4C in January. Both spring and fall are pleasant, however sandstorms may occur in the spring and temperatures can fluctuate in autumn.

    Pollution in the atmosphere

Expatriates and Beijingers alike claim that the city's air is polluted, and as a consequence, dust fills the skies. For the 13th year in a row, Beijing has ranked as the country's most polluting metropolis. You can purchase an app that tells you how clean the air is, but it won't assist you if you have to leave your home to go to work. In both the home and business, an air purifier is highly suggested.

    Employment

Yizhuang, a Beijing neighborhood, is home to the Beijing Economic and Technology Development Area, a concentration of scientific and technological businesses (BDA). China's "Silicon Valley" is located in Heidian, where both Microsoft and Google have their headquarters. The biggest of China's 100 research parks, Zhongguancun Science Park is also known as 'Electronics Avenue,' because it draws a huge number of foreign employees.

Even though China's stock market is situated in Shenzhen and Shanghai, several of the world's major banks, including J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs, maintain branches in Beijing, which attracts many foreigners.

There are a considerable number of foreign schools in Beijing, making the city an appealing option for expat instructors.

    The cost of a home

A 900-square-foot furnished apartment in a pricey neighborhood rents for £1,562 per month.

In a less expensive region, the monthly rent for a furnished 900-square-foot apartment is £942.

A 480-square-foot furnished apartment in a pricey neighborhood rents for £806 a month.

    Shanghai

7th place in Asia on the Mercer Cost of Living Index

In addition to being the world's biggest container port, Shanghai is also China's major financial and commercial center, with a population of 23,019,418. Shanghai is a popular destination for expats due to its high quality of life, which was rated by Mercer 2016 as the 101st best in the world.

Shanghai's climate is said to be moderate. In the winter, the lows are barely 4C. The summer months may be quite hot, with highs of 28C expected in July and August, the two hottest of the year. November and December are the coldest months of the year in the autumn, with temperatures dropping to 8C or less on average.

    Pollution in the atmosphere

Shanghai, like many other Chinese cities, suffers from poor air quality due to pollution. For those expats who suffer from chest issues, the U.S. embassy maintains a daily record of air pollution levels. Shanghai's air pollution has been categorized by the WHO as "level Group 1 human carcinogens" – the same category as cigarette smoking by the organization.

    Employment

Shanghai is a city with a large number of employment openings. Many foreign nationals work in a variety of industries here, from manufacturing to finance. Petrochemicals, electronics, chemicals, and steel are among the city's most important sectors. Teachers, too, will find lots of openings. If you have a background in finance or law, you might expect to get a work in Beijing. Shanghai's economy is home to 300 of the world's most prestigious companies.
