Photo credit: iStock<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The move announced just 48 hours ago came into effect on New Year\u2019s Day after the details were released by the state-owned <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/news\/\" title=\"View all posts in news\" >news<\/a> agency Xinhua.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOn Saturday, the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/foreign\/\" title=\"View all posts in foreign\" >foreign<\/a> exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/english\/regulator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regulator<\/a> toughened the rules on overseas cash withdrawals from personal bank cards to curb money laundering, terrorist financing, and tax evasion,\u201d the mouthpiece for Beijing reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The aptly-named, State Administration of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/jobs\">Foreign Exchange<\/a>, or SAFE for short, announced the decision when it stated that the total amount of overseas cash withdrawals from domestic bank cards owned by one person would be capped at 100,000 yuan ($15,000) per year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Restrictions were considered \u201ca necessary measure\u201d, the regulator pointed out. \u201cInternational experiences have shown that large cash transactions are often associated with criminal activities such as fraud and gambling,\u201d the SAFE statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FpTnC5WkCdlh8JaTiUVQqAsHRwVG?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"2016050710252203.jpg\" width=\"706\" height=\"497\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Photo credit: bing.com<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anyone exceeding the limit will be barred from withdrawing cash overseas for the remainder of the year and the following 12 months, Xinhua added. Still, the move comes after China tightened capital controls last year to stem the outflow of money.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In June, Beijing ordered the banking sector to report every cash withdrawal made overseas and card transaction of more than 1,000 yuan. Under the new regulation put out by the SAFE, banks had to submit a report of overseas transaction information on a daily basis from Sept 2.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">China had already increased controls about the use of bank cards in Hong Kong and abroad. In March, China UnionPay barred mainland Chinese customers from using its system to buy property in Hong Kong.
