It\u2019s an instant trigger of mixed emotions and speculations \u2014 when did this happen? Did I do anything wrong? What are they hiding from me?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We all know the feeling \u2014 when you find you are denied access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/jobs\">someone&#8217;s social media<\/a> feed. It\u2019s an instant trigger of mixed emotions and speculations \u2014 when did this happen? Did I do anything wrong? What are they hiding from me?<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s what half of Chinese parents have to deal with when they try to browse their children\u2019s WeChat Moments, also known as \u201cFriends\u2019 Circle\u201d (\u670b\u53cb\u5708 p\u00e9ngy\u01d2uqu\u0101n), as <a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/english\/suggested\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggested<\/a> by\u00a0a recent survey\u00a0released by Tencent.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FuBlqP5Grb4_Zudjl9tQfTCqbKVc?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"supchina.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Image: SupChina<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>According to the report, about 52 percent of WeChat users aged 18 to 29 block their parents on Wechat Moments.<\/p>\n<p>So why are young Chinese not sharing personal stories with their parents? About 62 percent of them said that parents \u201care neurotic about everything,\u201d along with a string of reasons such as fear of parents\u2019 disapproval, aversion to parents\u2019 nagging, and seeking privacy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FrwTvpCXlme-i_NhjsYiA69AhpX2?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"supchina2.png\" width=\"1106\" height=\"746\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Image: SupChina<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cMy parents don\u2019t know Moments very well, so I just told them I don\u2019t use it anymore,\u201d Qin Jianping \u79e6\u5efa\u5e73, a 28-year-old living in Chongqing,\u00a0told\u00a0a local <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/news\/\" title=\"View all posts in news\">news<\/a>paper. Qin said that since he broke up with his girlfriend two years ago, his parents had been leaving comments requesting updates on his dating status on every post he made on Moments.<\/p>\n<p>A daily user of the sharing feature, Qin updates his Moments regularly, mostly sharing interesting stories from his workplace or outside it, but his parents, as well as other relatives, are all excluded from his list of WeChat friends with access to his feeds. \u201cOnce they know I have free time, they just nag me about getting married,\u201d Qin said.<\/p>\n<p>Xie Yun \u8c22\u82b8, a Chongqing-based 26-year-old, places her parents in a specific group to which she only shares positive posts. \u201cI don\u2019t want my parents to see minor setbacks in my life,\u201d she said, adding that once her parents saw a Moments picture of her hand getting slightly burned while cooking, and they <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/travel\/\" title=\"View all posts in travel\">travel<\/a>ed all the way to her city to make sure she was all right.<\/p>\n<p>Image: SupChina<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The report also found that more than 49 percent of Chinese parents use WeChat as a main channel to communicate with their children, and roughly 36 percent of the parents who took the survey said they checked every post made by their children.<\/p>\n<p>When asked how they would react to being blocked, some parents said they would initiate a conversation with their children to find out the reason, while others said they wouldn\u2019t care.<\/p>\n<p>And some parents just outsmart their kids in this hide-and-seek game online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t realize I was blocked until I compared what I could see on my phone to what my son\u2019s aunt\u00a0could see,\u201d said Chen, a mother of a 27-year-old son. \u201cI chose to remain silent on this and now I\u2019m following my son\u2019s posts through his aunt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Source: Sup China<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"We all know the feeling \u2014 when you find you are denied access to someone&#8217;s social media feed.
