These are government propaganda posters promoting the 12 Core Socialist Values (\u793e\u4f1a\u4e3b\u4e49\u6838\u5fc3\u4ef7\u503c\u89c2 – Sh\u00e8hu\u00ec zh\u01d4y\u00ec h\u00e9x\u012bn ji\u00e0zh\u00edgu\u0101n).     <\/p>\n

The government began promoting these values after the 18th National Congress in 2012, and soon thereafter incorporated them into the national education plan. The end goal is for these values to be made “a way of thinking for the students”. <\/p>\n

The promotion of these values accompanied Xi Jinping’s ascension to power. This is no coincidence. Normally a new Chinese leader arrives at the helm with a new set of values. Hu Jintao championed “Eight Honors and Eight Shames” and Jiang Zemin advocated the “Three Stresses”. <\/p>\n
