“My phone fell out onto\u00a0the grass while\u00a0I was strolling outside,\u201d the girl explained, \u201cand that\u2019s when the snake bit me. It wrapped itself around my hand and began crawling up my arm so I grabbed it right away!\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr.\u00a0Huang checked the girl\u2019s\u00a0wound as soon as she explained the situation (although having a snake wrapped around your arm is pretty straightforward). Fortunately,\u00a0she was out of danger: \u201cThis snake is called a \u00a0dinodon\u00a0rufozonatum\u00a0snake\u00a0which is a non-venomous species of brown colors,\u201d the doctor told us.<\/p>\n

Hats off to this girl for being so brave; how could she possibly grab a wild snake that way?! Luckily for her, the wound wasn\u2019t too bad but even in the case of a bite from a non-venomous snake, you should still take special care and watch for any potential infections.<\/p>\n

Doctor Huang warned that snakes\u00a0appear frequently as temperatures continue to\u00a0rise:\u00a0\u201c19 patients have come to me to report a snake bite,\u201d he recalled. \u201cOnce you\u2019ve been bitten, it is important to take first aid immediately and not to\u00a0panic. First of all, you should keep the snake’s shape and appearance in mind\u00a0so you can\u00a0describe it to your\u00a0doctor\u00a0as precisely as possible. That\u00a0way, he or she\u00a0can choose an\u00a0accurate antitoxin\u00a0based on the snake that bit you, but we don’t recommend grabbing the\u00a0snake if it bites you a second time.”<\/p>\n

Doctor\u00a0Huang also suggests\u00a0that one should cover\u00a0their\u00a0wounded\u00a0limb with bandages\u00a0to prevent the venom from\u00a0expanding\u00a0any further throughout the body. You\u00a0should dial\u00a0120 to receive an\u00a0emergency treatment either\u00a0on site or at\u00a0a nearby\u00a0hospital.<\/p>\n

Snakes\u00a0usually\u00a0hide during\u00a0day and come out at night, and prefer living in humid\u00a0areas\u00a0with dense grassland. Obviously, people\u00a0should avoid going to these places, but if walking through\u00a0the grass is necessary, we recommend you do so using a long stick\u00a0or a tree branch to help see through it clearer and scare the snakes away.<\/p>\n

Emergency treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n

You should seek urgent treatment as soon as you\u2019ve been bitten\u00a0by a snake.\u00a0Patients who are able to go to a hospital within two hours after their contact with the snake can usually be treated with no damaging consequences and prevent the venom from spreading. Note that a wound caused by a non-venomous snake differs from a contact with a venomous one. If you\u2019ve been bitten by the latter, please keep the following instructions in mind:<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re ever bitten by a snake, take a look at the bite mark. If their fangs show a single line on your wound, it means the snake you\u2019ve been bitten by is venomous. If it shows two rows of fang marks, then it\u2019s non-venomous. But most importantly, just be wary of your surroundings at all times and be safe.<\/p>\n
