It was 2:00 PM in Hangzhou when temperatures reached 37 degrees. The sun was blazing upon the city and baking paved roads as if they were cooking inside<\/a> and over. Needless to say, it was a very hot day for Hangzhou and its residents.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was 2:00 PM in Hangzhou when temperatures reached 37 degrees. The sun was blazing upon the city and baking paved roads as if they were cooking inside and over. Needless to say, it was a very hot day for Hangzhou and its residents.<\/p>\n

“Hurry up, hurry up” a sweaty young delivery man told himself while holding a long stick and running around a residential area in his orange uniform.<\/p>\n

20 mins before his escapade, Mr. Wang\u00a0had received an order\u00a0to be delivered ASAP and relentlessly called in vain the person who had originally<\/a> placed the order.<\/p>\n

You see, Mr. Wang suffered from an accident over 2 years ago that cost him a leg. Despite the loss of one of his limbs, however, he went on to work as a food<\/a> delivery man and has been occupying this role for two years.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, he eventually found his client\u00a0next to a\u00a0swimming pool\u00a0and was able to delivery the order in time.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cLuckily for me, this order didn\u2019t require me to run up a staircase,\u201d Mr. Wang said in relief. The young man\u00a0worked from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM that day and\u00a0received\u00a0a total of\u00a011 orders. He\u00a0eventually\u00a0returned\u00a0home\u00a0and\u00a0slept\u00a0for about\u00a05 hours before kicking off his next shift from 10:00\u00a0AM to 3:00 PM. To fight this exhaustive heat, Mr.Wang drank 7 cups of water\u00a0that day.\u00a0He can earn up to RMB 200 a day.<\/p>\n

“I love this job\u00a0and\u00a0I love Hangzhou,\u201d he said. \u201cMy\u00a0co-workers\u00a0have been kind to me and have helped taking\u00a0care of me\u00a0over the years.\u201d\u00a0But there are also times when Mr. Wang feels wronged despite his best intentions.<\/p>\n

He recalled a particular time when he received an order to delivery food to someone working in a corporate office. He tried calling the customer several times but was unable to reach him because he was already in a meeting, so Mr. Wang handed the order over to other staff of the company who assured they would pass it along to his customer. The situation was out of his control, yet that customer gave our strong-willing delivery man a two-star review for failing to deliver the order directly to him.<\/p>\n

\n

But there are, of course, other instances when customers show genuine appreciation for his service. One time, one of Mr. Wang\u2019s customers admitted feeling drunk and threw the keys out her window so he could come up to her apartment and open the door himself. When the customer realized that Mr. Wang was missing a leg, she felt an immediate sense of regret and guilt:\u00a0“I am\u00a0SO\u00a0sorry for asking you to come upstairs like that,\u201d she told him. \u201cYou should have told me on the phone! Here\u2019s a tip to thank you for your service.\u201d\u00a0Mr. Wang\u00a0kindly refused to take her money, to which she replied jokingly: “No no no… Please accept\u00a0it, otherwise\u00a0I will give you a bad review on the food delivery\u00a0app.”<\/p>\n

Some loyal\u00a0customers, aware of Mr. Wang\u2019s physical conditions, make the effort to meet him downstairs to pick up their order.<\/p>\n

“I have two dreams,\u201d Mr. Wang told us. \u201cOne is to be able to find\u00a0a prosthetic leg\u00a0so\u00a0I can walk like a normal person\u00a0again. The other\u00a0is to meet a girl\u00a0who will love\u00a0me for who I am. I want to keep working\u00a0hard for our future.”<\/p>\n

We tend to get wrapped up in our own problems, complaining about the hot weather, traffic, spending too much money\u00a0or time flying past us too quickly.\u00a0But let\u2019s not forget that there are people out there like Mr. Wang who, despite their own misfortunes, decide to move forward and work hard to pursue their dreams under the burning sun.<\/p>\n

Life can be tough, but don\u2019t let it get in the way of your goals. Keep fighting for what you believe in!
