This experience not only shocked\u00a0himself\u00a0but also made the netizens think very\u00a0highly of China’s electronics industry.<\/p>\n

After that, Scotty\u00a0continued<\/a> to post videos to depict\u00a0a variety of\u00a0his\u00a0experiences\u00a0in China<\/a>, including a visit to China\u2019s\u00a0unmanned supermarket<\/a>, as well as reporting different kinds of technical problems\u00a0via his posts\u00a0–\u00a0Scotty\u00a0knows his stuff when it comes to\u00a0tech\uff01<\/p>\n

A few months ago, to satisfy the curiosity of netizens about China, Scotty went to Yiwu – the most developed city that powers the entire wholesale industry in China.<\/p>\n

\n

Although Shenzhen is the leading wholesale manufacturer of mobile phone parts in China,\u00a0Yiwu is undoubtedly the richest commodity\u00a0trade<\/a> market\u00a0in China<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yiwu is home to\u00a0the world’s largest wholesale market known as\u00a0the Yiwu International Trade Market.<\/p>\n

It covers an area of\u00a05.5 million square meters<\/strong>\u00a0and has a total length of 7 kilometers. It has about\u00a075,000 booths<\/strong>\u00a0so far.<\/p>\n

By the end of last year,\u00a0about\u00a018\u00a0million<\/strong>\u00a0commodities had\u00a0been exported to219 countries in the world<\/strong>. The seasonal amount of imports and exports is\u00a0worth\u00a0RMB 48.88 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Scotty\u00a0with his friend Collin\u00a0Abroadcast\u00a0filming themselves exploring the Yiwu Market in search of good bargains. They both live in China.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a\u00a0very\u00a0big shopping<\/a> mall,\u00a0which makes it particularly hard for Scotty and Collin to find their way around. So they decided to follow a\u00a0map of the whole place that they could find inside:\u00a0“Wow, this map is amazing<\/strong>,\u201d Scotty said. \u00a0\u201cThe numerous and dense commercial varieties were well organized.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a careful study of the map, Scotty\u00a0chose\u00a0to start with\u00a0the toy, handicraft hardware tools areas.\u00a0Collin also thought that negotiating in the wedding area would be \u201ccool<\/strong>\u201d to show their followers.<\/p>\n

“Let’s\u00a0go!\u201d\u00a0Collin said happily.<\/span><\/p>\n

On their way to the hardware tool area, they passed\u00a0by\u00a0a wholesale electric car shop\u00a0which easily distracted them from their original plan and intrigued them to go check it out. \u201cThey have every possible electric vehicle you can dream of here,\u201d Scotty reported.\u00a0\u201cAnything that\u2019s got a battery and a motor in it, it\u2019s here<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

This\u00a0shop aligns with the Chinese line of thoughts: there are so many things you can\u2019t imagine, but nothing that you can\u2019t do.<\/p>\n

Scotty was particularly intrigued by a very strange-looking bike called the \u201chovering bike\u201d. He asked one of the shop\u2019s staff for the price, to which she responded RMB 720: \u201cThat\u2019s about 100 bucks<\/strong>\u201d he thought.<\/p>\n

Looking at this cool invention, that price isn\u2019t too bad for something that Scotty finds \u201creally cool.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

After a while, Scotty convinced Collin to stick to their original plan and leave this shop: \u201cThis is one shop out of 75,000.<\/strong>\u201d Scotty said to his camera jokingly. \u201cWe\u2019re having fun here, BUT I think we gotta keep moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after,\u00a0they\u00a0finally\u00a0arrived at their first destination,\u00a0\u201chardware land\u201d as Scotty calls it.<\/p>\n

This whole market is filled with extremely specialized shops that only sell one thing – like a small stand that specializes in scissors which they pass by in awe. \u201cThere\u2019s a\u00a0speciality\u00a0shop for everything here.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

They were stunned by the speciality of all the shops present in the Yiwu Market – stop stunned, in fact, that\u00a0Scotty and Collin counted the amount of \u201clike\u201ds they both said in one sentence: \u201cIt\u2019s like, I think one of the things that\u00a0hits\u00a0home for me is like how specialized everything is, like we saw a shop that sells nothing but like, blades\u2026\u201d They counted a total of\u00a013 \u201clike\u201ds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It seems like they were really shocked by the sales<\/a> model…<\/p>\n

They eventually found a projective lamp that\u00a0change\u00a0shapes and had to stop\u00a0to look at\u00a0it again.<\/p>\n

It changed from a windmill to a strawberry and then to Bay Max, and all kinds of stereoscopic graphics changed beautifully.<\/p>\n

While on their to\u00a0way across another district, Scotty\u00a0met a trader from Dubai\u00a0who specializes only\u00a0in door\u00a0handles: \u201cWhat?! So you\u2019re a door handle trader. That is SO specialized!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

Scotty\u00a0learned that the business<\/a>man\u00a0has\u00a0stores in five countries in the Middle\u00a0East,\u00a0and that all the stores were only selling door handles. Because of how specific their request is, traders have to come to the Yiwu Market: \u201cWe come here for only one door handle,\u201d the businessman said.<\/p>\n

Yiwu really\u00a0does\u00a0deserve\u00a0the name of the world’s largest wholesale market.<\/p>\n

After walking for a long while, they finally arrived\u00a0at\u00a0the toy area\u00a0which is located underground.<\/p>\n

As you would expect, there\u2019s a large variety of toys here,\u00a0some of\u00a0you can find during the Halloween season.<\/p>\n

Then they\u00a0went to their\u00a0third destination – the handicraft district.<\/p>\n

This block mainly sell Christmas products, which is why Scotty felt like it was Christmas when they went: \u201cIt\u2019s a total sensory overload<\/strong>,\u201d he said. \u201cSanta Claus everywhere; Christmas trees as far as I can see, and tinsel on every corner.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are many shops specializing in selling plastic Christmas trees.<\/p>\n

And Christmas small boutiques.<\/p>\n

After seeing so many Christmas products and gift shops, Collin\u00a0said:<\/p>\n

“I feel that when I was a child, the Christmas tree and the gifts my parents gave me came\u00a0from here.\u201d Well,\u00a0when more than 60% of all Christmas decorations sold<\/strong>\u00a0around the world are exported from Yiwu Market, there\u2019s a high possibility\u00a0to\u00a0it might be true.<\/p>\n

Walking to another part of the handicraft area, Collin found a gift that he had bought for his mother in another country.<\/p>\n

It was a small Eiffel\u00a0Tower\u00a0which he had bought from a fake market for\u00a0RMB 80<\/strong>.\u00a0When he learned from the shop assistant that it only sells\u00a0for\u00a0RMB 7<\/strong>\u00a0at the Yiwu Market, his face awkwardly turned silent after which he said with a smirk: \u201cI feel ripped off,<\/strong>\u201d as Scotty began to laugh hysterically.<\/p>\n

They also found a shop that specializes in wholesale monks and other necessities.<\/p>\n

The three target areas selected by Scotty\u00a0are located in the No.\u00a01 commercial district, but the wedding area selected by Collin is in the No.\u00a04 business district.<\/p>\n

It was several\u00a0kilometers\u00a0away from where they were, so they chose to take the fastest and most convenient\u00a0method of transport<\/a>ation\u00a0-a\u00a0motorcycle, \u2018When in Rome, do as the Romans do\u2019 the saying goes, which means you should try\u00a0a\u00a0Chinese-style\u00a0motorcycle\u00a0ride which\u00a0turned out to be a\u00a0pretty nice experience.<\/p>\n

Their Yiwu tour had\u00a0expanded their horizons\u00a0and gave both Scotty and Collin, two very successful vloggers, a brand new perspective on the world and how products are sold. They knew about the Yiwu Market but never thought about how all the products they had either seen, bought or interacted with in the past mostly came from Yiwu.<\/p>\n

\n

We believe that Scotty\u00a0video will help\u00a0foreign<\/a>ers know more about how\u00a0Chinese products have spread all over the whole world.<\/p>\n

\n

But there\u2019s more to China than selling such types of products, of course. A lot more!<\/p>\n
