1. Get Your Chinese Pension Back<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

You might not know it, but yes! You do have Chinese pension!\u00a0If you\u2019re working in China legally and paying social insurance according to the labor law, it\u2019s compulsory for foreigners employed in China to contribute to social insurances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are leaving China after having been employed by a Chinese company or a foreign company based in China and prior to reaching the prescribed statutory age for pension withdrawal, you can get back a part of your participation to the pension funds you have been contributing to each month you were employed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The employer contribution is 20% of all its employees\u2019 salaries for the country-wide pool of money plus 8% of each person\u2019s salary on a personal pension account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For foreigners leaving China, they will be able to get back all the money paid on the personal pension account!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

So how can you get back that pension?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Terminate the employment contract with your employer<\/span><\/p>\n

The employer should give you a stamped release letter acknowledging that you do not work for them anymore (\u7ec8\u6b62\u52b3\u52a8\u5408\u540c)<\/span><\/p>\n

Your employer will submit the stamped form to the local Human Resources and Social Security Bureau to terminate your employment.<\/span><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0Tell your employer to fill out the Personal Pension Insurance Deposit Withdrawal Application Form for Insured Foreigners\u00a0(\u5916\u56fd\u53c2\u4fdd\u4eba\u5458\u57fa\u672c\u517b\u8001\u4fdd\u9669\u4e2a\u4eba\u8d26\u6237\u50a8\u5b58\u989d\u4e00\u6b21\u6027\u652f\u53d6\u7533\u9886\u8868.)

This form is available from the local Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. They should both cancel your employment and hand in this form, which is basically a notification to the government that you intend to withdraw your money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3)\u00a0Visit the local Human Resources and Social Security Bureau
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Take your passport, valid residence permit and release letter to the Bureau, ask to sign the Confirmation Letter for Whole Withdrawal of Basic Pension Insurance Deposit (\u4e00\u6b21\u6027\u63d0\u53d6\u57fa\u672c\u517b\u8001\u91d1\u786e\u8ba4\u4e66)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember\u00a0to bring your bank card (you must have had this account for more than 6 months). Bureaus may not accept cards from banks other than ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), Bank of China (BOC) and Construction Bank of China (CCB). However, most of the companies are also paying salaries on accounts from those banks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Note that once your employment is terminated, your residence permit will be canceled and you have one month to leave China (some employers forget to do so, but this is not legal).<\/span><\/p>\n

Processing time takes usually seven working days and you should receive your pension fund into your bank account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What happens if you don\u2019t apply before leaving China?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The contribution years will be calculated on a cumulative basis in the event that the person comes back to China to work again in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you reach the age of pension and if you have contributed to the Chinese Pension scheme for longer than 15 years and you reside\u00a0outside of\u00a0China, you will receive monthly social insurance benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, you must submit a certification of existence issued by a Chinese embassy or consulate to the in-charge social insurance agency every year.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Get Your Money Out From China<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Getting money out of China is a question that frequently comes up. Many expatriates have their jobs<\/a> and daily lives in China, saving up their hard-earned Chinese RMB for the future.\u00a0It is likely that those wanting to leave China will want to take their RMB with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

So how can you take all your money out of your Chinese bank account<\/a>?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First, you need to know you cannot withdraw it all from an ATM at one time.<\/span><\/p>\n

If your account has more than RMB 50,000 and you would like to withdraw it at once in cash, you have to make an appointment with the bank in advance. It is also possible to physically take cash out of China when leaving. The amount of money is limited to RMB 20,000\/person or the equivalent of USD 5,000 in any other currency.<\/span><\/p>\n

The most common way is to transfer to your account in your home country. This will cost you transfer fee and it depends on how much you have transferred and to which country.<\/span><\/p>\n

You might also be thinking to withdraw the money from an ATM outside of China. However, you can only withdraw it from an ATM that has the UnionPay logo on it. And if you do find one, it is likely you would incur heavy withdrawal fees. Also, there\u2019s a limit amount per year to withdraw from a Chinese account abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last but not least, remember to cancel your bank account in person.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What you\u2019ll need:<\/span><\/p>\n

1)\u00a0The original passport that you used to open your bank account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some might have changed their passport after having opened their bank account, and if you don\u2019t have the original one, you will need to ask your embassy to offer a letter that proves you renewed your passport.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Your debit card\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) Go to the same bank branch<\/span><\/p>\n

You have to go to the same bank branch where you opened your account.\u00a0Otherwise, the bank won\u2019t be able to find your banking information and it will take weeks to send the copy from the head office.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. What Can You Put Inside a Container?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sure, China does have lots of cool and cheap stuff you would like to take home, but hold on a second!<\/span><\/p>\n

Each container needs to be examined by customs to see what you are bringing out of China. For example, you might have some Chinese wooden furniture and it might be made of \u201crare woods\u201d and in that case, you are not allowed to bring it out of China.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s recommended you keep the tag after you buy it, which shows which kind of wood it is made of, especially when you\u2019re seeking treasure at Panjiayuan Market. However, customs will stamp on the staff they approve to ship which will destroy a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another thing you need to know is to make sure your destination allows for whatever you\u2019re bringing to be shipped there. Take scooters for example – while they\u2019re everywhere in China, does your country of destination allow them? In this case, you have to check in advance otherwise it\u2019s a waste of space in your container. Also, the battery of the scooter is lithium battery which is categorized as a dangerous item, you will need a lot of documents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Check with your relocation company about what you can bring with you in the container.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Bring Your Best Friend Home<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 4 simple steps for ensuring pet owners based in Beijing meet exit requirements are summarized below. Usually, owners will be asked to prepare 6 months in advance. So once you have set your departure date, time to get to work!
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Provide rabies vaccination records and Official Vaccination Immunity Certificate<\/span><\/p>\n

Complete the rabies vaccinations and obtain an official PRC Animal Health and Immunity Certificate certifying that your pet was vaccinated at least 30 days before but not more than 12 months before departure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Animals departing China must be rabies vaccinated at an officially designated animal vaccination hospital in the PRC and must have the official \u201cBeijing Animal Health and Immunity Certificate\u201d (vaccination red book).<\/span><\/p>\n

It is recommended that owners keep good records of their pet\u2019s local vaccinations upon adoption or arrival in Beijing. By law, pets must be rabies vaccinated annually in the PRC. China does not recognize the two- or three-year rabies vaccines from other countries, so pets must be vaccinated annually here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0Health Examination and Health Certificate<\/span><\/p>\n

Pets must undergo a health examination not more than seven days before their departure date at government-run Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau animal hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n

After your pets have completed their vaccinations and have obtained the official \u201cvaccination red books,\u201d pet owners may take their pets for an exit health examination at the designated government Quarantine Bureau animal hospital, Guan Shang, seven days prior to the animal\u2019s departure date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once completed, you will be issued a \u201cBeijing International Companion Animal Health Inspection Certificate\u201d (Health Certificate), which is required to obtain the official \u201cAnimal Health Certificate for Exit\u201d (Exit Permit) from the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. Fees will be charged for the examination and the tests. Owners should take the pet, the official vaccination red book, passport or photocopy (one passport per pet) and cash (at least RMB 800 per pet) at the time of the visit.<\/span><\/p>\n

3)\u00a0\u201cAnimal Health Certificate for Exit\u201d (Exit Permit)<\/span><\/p>\n

Be sure to pick up the exit permit from the Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau after receiving the health certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Owners may present the health certificate to obtain the official \u201cAnimal Health Certificate for Exit\u201d (exit permit). The Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has a satellite office on the second floor of the Quarantine Bureau\u2019s animal hospital where owners may process the exit permit. Bring your \u201cvaccination red book,\u201d the health certificate and your passport (or passport photocopy). It is not necessary to bring your pet to apply for the exit permit. The exit permit fee is around RMB 100 and is usually processed within two working days and is valid for 14 days once issued. Once you receive the exit permit, pet owners have 14 days to take pets overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau\u2019s office hours are: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 11:30 am and 1.30pm to 4.30pm. (Note: The office is closed for all public and national holidays).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4) Last but not least, pick an airline<\/span><\/p>\n

Every airline is different, we recommend that you call up the airline you want to travel<\/a> with before you book a flight to find out if they can accommodate you in case it turns out that your flight can\u2019t take your pet (for whatever reason), you\u2019ll be stuck with having to purchase another ticket.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a05. SIM Card<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Remember to cancel your Chinese SIM card! Even though is pre-pay card but as long as you didn\u2019t top up for it, the mobile company will take it back the number however it also will deduct your credit.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

It will cause trouble that if you come back to China and apply for the SIM card again in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

To cancel your SIM card, you have to go to the mobile company in person with your original passport.<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Unlink Your WeChat with Cellphone<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you forget to cancel your phone number and unlink your WeChat ID with your phone, other people may have access to your WeChat.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

If your Chinese phone bill is not paid for six months,\u00a0 the number will be canceled and is considered a brand new number. Another person will use it. That person can log into your WeChat account with your number! This may explain why many expats lost their WeChat ID after returning to their home countries for a certain period of time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What you should do is unlink your WeChat ID with your phone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Go to \u201cMe\u201d \u2013 \u201cSettings\u201d \u2013 \u201cMy Account\u201d \u2013\u201cPhone\u201d to unlink.<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Non-Criminal Record<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

You may need a report of your stay in China when you are looking for a new place of residence. If you do not have these on file in the future getting a new place of residence after you leave China can be impossible as they may need to see your original passport and tenancy agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you decide to leave China or move to another Chinese city \u2013 go to the local police station before you leave, and ask for a non-criminal record (\u65e0\u72af\u7f6a\u8bb0\u5f55\u8bc1\u660e) for the entire stay you were in that city. Ask for a report with no gaps in the dates. If you registered at several police stations during your time of stay, you will need to go to each one to get a report. After getting your non-criminal record from the Public Security Bureau office, you must bring it to the Notary Public Office to get a notarized translation.<\/span><\/p>\n

8.Translate Chinese Documents\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Since you may need to translate your record from the police department, bring other things that you may need in your home country translated. Having valuable documents translated before you go back with.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make sure that it gets done before you may really need them. Trying to do things last minute or if you are not aware of a certified notary in your home country may prove to be a mistake.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

9. Get Reference from Company<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It is said to be very hard to rent anywhere without references. Get a reference from your landlord in China, in case you want to rent somewhere when you get home. If you have a Chinese speaking landlord, you can always write the letter yourself and ask them to sign it.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

You may want to have some sort of references other than just contacts from your place of work in China. Going back to your home country and still working for the same company you may not think anything to do so. Having that reference may help with promotions and other opportunities within the company. It is always good to have it in writing about your good work.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Have a letter of reference from your landlord.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Get any letter of recommendation or references in China before you leave.<\/span><\/p>\n

10. Cancel Work Visa<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When your labor contract is terminated, your HR will normally get the employment permit (\u5916\u56fd\u4eba\u5c31\u4e1a\u8bc1) or foreign expert certificate (\u5916\u56fd\u4e13\u5bb6\u8bc1) from you and cancel it. It\u2019s very important you can get the cancellation certificate(\u6ce8\u9500\u8bc1\u660e), at least the scanned copy, issued by the relevant authority.<\/span><\/p>\n

This certificate can be an official proof of your work experience in China. And if you want to come back to China to get a work visa again, the cancellation certificate is also required.<\/span><\/p>\n
