The next closest film in the same month was \u201cKong: Skull Island\u201d with $63 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/Ftfs4Pq_zZXMc9FGEE0bQbQsdPBv?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"800\" height=\"491\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>While it is, by all means, an incredible amount of money, the latest installment in the \u201cFast and Furious\u201d franchise still falls over $100 million short behind Stephen Chow\u2019s record-topping blockbuster \u201cThe Mermaid\u201d, which earned over $490 million last year.<\/p>\n<p>What the film&nbsp;\u201cF8\u201d did surpass was its predecessor, \u201cFurious 7\u201d, which got over $351 million in 2015 while the local production \u201cMonster Hunt\u201d became China\u2019s top grossing movie in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, \u201cThe Fate of the Furious\u201d took in over $1.1 billion worldwide against a production budget of $250 million ($350 million in total including marketing costs).&nbsp;Comprising of over a third of the film\u2019s revenue, the Chinese market has undoubtedly been the key to the movie\u2019s global success.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"webwxgetmsgimg 1.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FlXXlKXBxtykYAuKbjvAxKMwIbVH?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Superfast cars driven by Vin Diesel and his badass gang have earned their way in front of every single foreign movie ever released in China, box office records reveal.
