The gondola, similar in design to a shark cage, moves along a pair of steel wires some 400 meters above the Jinsha River.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FsmVCc6bIYLQGjj35tCpDoXlrf1s?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"280\" height=\"202.9881154499151\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Photo_Ecns-2\"><\/span>Photo:Ecns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr>\n<p>The cableway was built back in 1999 to help residents of rural Liangshan County cross the Jinsha to neighboring Yunnan province, cutting down the trip from a full day to only a few pulse-pounding minutes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Cableways like this used to be a common way for residents to get from place to place in mountainous Yunnan province, but recently local governments have been replacing them with less perilous means of travel.&nbsp;They are going to replace it with a boring bridge down river.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"3.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/Fv0_ak5V4cMPGdmmixJJAOgDQiRq?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"280\" height=\"202.9881154499151\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Photo_Ecns-3\"><\/span>Photo:Ecns<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr>\n<p>However, the bridge over the Jinsha won&#8217;t be completed until the end of the year, and isn&#8217;t expected to open until next May.
