href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/jobs\">digital personal information<\/a>, according to a statement on Wednesday from police in southern Zhejiang province.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 22 suspects, 20 were Apple employees who allegedly used the company\u2019s internal computer system to gather users\u2019 names, phone numbers, Apple IDs, and other data, which they sold as part of a scam worth more than 50 million yuan (US$7.36 million).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FoTWIRfeG4PP3bItsZJXUXX2S1n2?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"2.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"788.5964912280701\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span or <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/foreign\/\" title=\"View all posts in foreign\">foreign<\/a> Apple customers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After months of investigation, the statement said, police across more than four provinces \u2013 Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian \u2013 detained the suspects over the weekend, seizing their \u201ccriminal tools\u201d and dismantling their online network.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects, who worked in direct <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/market\/\" title=\"View all posts in market\">market<\/a>ing and outsourcing for Apple in China, allegedly charged between 10 yuan (US$1.50) and 180 yuan for pieces of the illegally extracted data.<\/p>\n<p>The sale of personal information is common in China, which implemented on June 1 a controversial new cybersecurity law aimed at protecting the country\u2019s networks and private user information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" from police and government databases.<\/p>\n<p>Reporters successfully obtained a trove of material on one colleague \u2013 including flight history, hotel checkouts and property holdings \u2013 in
