Photo:163.com<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr>\n<p>The two foreigners, were are residents of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, were identified by their surnames Johnson and Dodo, although their nationalities were not revealed.<\/p>\n<p>They convinced the victim, whom they met online, that they had a suitcase full of what looked like black paper but was actually US$1.4 million dollars worth of US banknotes that had been dyed black million and smuggled into China.<\/p>\n<p>They offered to sell the special \u201cchemical agents\u201d to wash the dye off the money, local media reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FpGTsdbNTLIkfYxCyyxtPcw_pkEw?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"589\" height=\"786.0472727272727\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coming_clean_one_of_the_suspects_shows_police_how_the_scam_worked_Photo_163com\"><\/span>Coming clean: one of the suspects shows police how the scam worked. She said that Johnson, who used the pseudonym \u201cAnderson\u201d, demonstrated how the money was washed in front of her, according to Guangzhou\u2019s New Express Daily.<\/p>\n<p>Li said that during their meeting in a hotel room, Johnson applied the chemicals to some of the black paper, and washed them in clean water. Soon the paper turned into US dollar notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"\">She said she believed she was looking after the money for an \u201cAmerican engineer\u201d who was working on an offshore oil rig, and to whom she had lent money through the two men. The borrowed money plus a \u201cbonus for her trouble\u201d would be paid to her with converted cash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"3.jpg\" style=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FgZqRxOnHl_rKOdAOPL56a4mlJaX?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" width=\"589\" height=\"786.0472727272727\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>Just the black paper Photo:163.com<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>She paid several times for a \u201crecovering agent\u201d, \u201cpreservatives\u201d, \u201cshipping fees and storage fees\u201d and \u201cincubators\u201d over the following months, but did not receive any money.
