Photo: SCMP<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The country of origin, date of the flights and airline \u2013 or airlines \u2013 involved were not revealed in a China News Service report on the incident on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>But a photo taken by quarantine inspectors who boarded one of the planes at Kunming Changshui International Airport, in Yunnan, showed it was a <a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/english\/domestic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">domestic<\/a> airline \u2013 with Chinese characters visible on the headrest covers.<\/p>\n<p>It was also unclear at what stage in the flight and where the cockroaches were discovered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/FmwAcMOJ4MIo84yM51k_LDY-DMnS?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"2.jpg\" width=\"589\" height=\"345.2758620689655\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_German_cockroach_is_the_smallest_of_the_three_most_common_species_of_the_insect_Photo_SCMP\"><\/span>The German cockroach is the smallest of the three most common species of the insect.\u00a0Photo: SCMP<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Pest control experts were called in on both occasions to remove the insects and fumigate the cabin, catering area, toilets and cargo hold, the airport authorities said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.hiredchina.com\/Fs_NE-5zkWioe5NtZsbUUjU5BS-K?imageView2\/0\/format\/webp\/q\/75\" alt=\"3.jpg\" width=\"589\" height=\"397.8581730769231\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h5><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Toilet_in_the_plane_Photo_travelchinacom\"><\/span>Toilet in the plane\u00a0Photo: travel.<a target=\"_blank\" class=\"inside_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiredchina.com\/articles\/tag\/china\/\" title=\"View all posts in china\">china<\/a>.com<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The insects \u2013 identified as\u00a0Blattella germanica, or German cockroaches \u2013 were caught and are being examined for pathogens by the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau at the airport, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The German cockroach is the smallest of the three most common species \u2013 the other two are American and Oriental cockroaches.<\/p>\n<p>American cockroaches are the largest, growing up to more than 5cm in length, while the German variety \u2013 which is known as the Russian cockroach in Germany \u2013 are usually less than a third of that size.<\/p>\n<p>The airport could not be reached for comment.
