Overview
The company was founded in Nuremberg in 1855, as a pencil manufacturer. In 1865, Gvstavadam Schwan was become the manager of company. Later, he started taking the first part from the family name, and started using the swan logo as one of the earliest trademarks. The swan was also chosen to symbolise the values of purity and beauty. In 1929, due to a problem in the process of manufacturing, pencils were not completely coated, leaving them with white edges. The striped edge as a trademark feature was born and until today featured on several products. During the Second World War, the company and factory was destroyed until everything was rebuilt in 1949. The first neon-yellow STABILO BOSS highlighter was born in 1971 after the Schwan family trip to USA. Whether student or manager – it wasn’t long before everyone had one of these “reading” pens. Nowadays, STABILO is still a family run company and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of writing instruments. STABILO is part of the Schwan-STABILO Group.
