Which Chinese city has the most Americans?
Americans traveling to China include tourists, students, and expats. It's no surprise that so many Americans have taken the jump and visited the world's most populous nation; the country has a wide range of cultural offerings, mouthwatering food, and magnificent landscapes. More Americans have settled in certain cities than others; this leads us to wonder which Chinese city is home to the greatest number of U.S. citizens.
Beijing: The Big Apple of China
Beijing is one of the most enticing destinations in China for American tourists. Traditional and modern sights like The Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, the bustle of the city's famous retail malls and marketplaces, and the abundance of historical and cultural monuments can all be enjoyed here. Almost a third of Beijing's non-Chinese residents are Americans, making up the city's biggest expat community. Around 30,000 Americans called Beijing home in 2010, when China conducted its sixth national census.
Shanghai: A Prime Destination
Shanghai, on China's eastern shore, is a common stop for many American tourists. Shanghai, the country's most important metropolis, is a gleaming beacon of modernity and brightness, with its striking mix of ultra-modern skyscrapers and traditional buildings. Attractions are many in this area. There's a lot to see and do in this city, from the vibrant nightlife and bustling business center to the historic Bund shoreline and the 100-year-old Xintiandi market. According to the 2010 Chinese census, there were 31,304 American residents in Shanghai.
Hong Kong: The Ultimate Metropolis
Several Americans have also found themselves lured to Hong Kong. Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China known for its high-rise buildings, flashy neon signs, and delicious food, is a special administrative region with its own government. This city is full of contrasts because to the marriage of its traditional Chinese culture and its colonial British background. Those in search of solitude may choose from a wide variety of parks and beaches in urban areas and rural areas. In 2020, the seventh census revealed that 33,414 Americans called Hong Kong home, giving it the city with the highest concentration of Americans of any global metropolis.
Guangzhou: A Hub of Activity
Located in Southern China along the country’s famous Pearl River, Guangzhou has become an increasingly popular stop for many American tourists and inhabitants. As one of the most populous cities in the world, Guangzhou boasts a thrilling metropolitan lifestyle and is the capital of Guangdong, the world’s most populous province. A wide variety of attractions can be found in the city. Want to see traditional street performances, catch up on the latest trends in fashion, or try some delicious authentic Cantonese cuisine? Then come to Guangzhou. As of 2020, there were nearly 2,700 Americans living in Guangzhou, according to the 2020 census.
Shenzhen: A City of Wonders
As a special economic zone, Shenzhen's rise to prominence in the past few decades have made it a major player in the global market. What’s more, the city is often described as a technology hub due its leading role in the industry. This has resulted in vibrant street life, bustling night markets, numerous attractions, and a distinctive cuisine. The most recent census recorded that in 2020 there were 3,768 Americans living in Shenzhen, making it the fourth largest city in terms of number of Americans.
