Security camera footage captured the blast that struck during the breakfast rush at 8:40am, flinging dust and debris across a major road.
Images posted on mainland media shortly afterwards showed bloodied victims nursing their injuries in the aftermath as a fire raged through the two-storey structure housing the food shop.

The number of injured, 12 of whom were in serious condition, was heightened because the blast shattered the windows of nearby vehicles, including a bus, the government of Hangzhou’s Xihu district said in a statement.
Reports said the fire was eventually contained after 12 fire trucks converged on the scene.
Most such small restaurants on the mainland use bottled gas to fuel their cookers.

One eyewitness said: “I was in a residential complex at that moment. The buildings within a 300 metre radius of the restaurant seemed to be shaking – like a bomb explosion.”
