The new Line 10 stop at Hongtudi Station lies 94.4 metres below ground, which is equivalent to the height of a 31-story building.  60 meters deep and earns the designation as the deepest in the country. It is three times the depth of a standard bomb shelter.

Furthermore, the nearby Liyuchi Station is expected to be the country’s second deepest station when opened, at 76 metres underground.

Divided into four levels, it takes more than three minutes for passengers to reach the subway platform by escalator.

Locals were not surprised as they believe it’s just so Chongqing — designs born of the hilly geography. It has drawn interest from people online who say they want to experience the impressive infrastructure some time.

Some also joked about the possibility of a sudden blackout or escalator failure – it would take forever to walk up or down the stairs.

One of the latest “masterpieces” is a train that literally goes through a block of flats, rather than around the 19-story tower or demolishing it. Another features a road that runs on top of a five-story building.
