Native English speaker seeking employment in Shanghai. Looking for work outside of the education industry. Currently working as a kindergarten teacher in Shanghai, China. I studied a bachelor of arts at the University of Western Australia, double majoring in Communications & Media Studies, and Mandarin Chinese. Due to my character and previous work experience, I am very good at communicating information, and collaborating with other people. I can understand the personal biases that people have, and am able to know their points of view. I enjoy and work well in teams, as well as independently. Having grown up during the rise of social media, and formally studying communications and media, I am extremely familiar with many different social media platforms and their uses.
At Star Horizon, I have taught children from Pre-K to K1 as a kindergarten homeroom teacher. In this role, I have planned and carried out English lessons, whilst accounting and adapting to the changing classroom environment. As I am in the classroom with the same children all day, I am constantly teaching - whether it is English, learning through play and experience, or life skills - and managing student behaviour, emotions, and concerns. In this position, I am also constantly in contact with parents and other staff about the content of our classes and our children's progress, and concerns. In addition to classroom activities, we have also prepared extra-themed related activities, and I have acted as a host for multiple kindergarten events.
At EF, I have taught a range of students from 3 to 16 years old using a variety of teaching methods and practices to cater to their learning abilities in the classroom and online. I am particularly familiar with teaching students between the ages of 3 – 5. Through this role, I have learned to personalise activities for individuals and groups, keeping them engaged and learning. In addition, I am constantly liasing and collaborating with parental advisors and other staff members to help individual students improve their results inside and outside of the classroom. This role has helped me develop my creative thinking in order to write lesson plans, and set not only goals for the students, but my own development as a teacher. I am able to confidently plan lessons, create and gather resources, and apply these to facilitate individual, pair and group activities in order to carry out an engaging and effective lesson.
Working as a mentor and tutor to school-aged students (ages 5 to 17) is a major driving force for my passion for education, and English education in particular. Liasing with my superiors and parents has helped me develop the skills to identify the students’ gaps in knowlege and plan to not only reduce these gaps, but help the student achieve their maximum potential in their classes. This helped many students gain placement in their preferred universities.
I was responsible for organising participants (mainly aged between 7 to 17 years old), ensuring the safety of participants and equipment, running outdoor laser tag games, and managing customer concerns. In addition, I was responsible for handling money and opening and closing the business. This role demonstrated my determination in a physically-demanding outdoor environment, and helped build my understanding of how to care for and understand the wants of children, whilst balancing the need for their safety in an outdoor and hazard-filled environment.
